Today was an odd day in Springfield. With the bad weather, some wondered if the governor would make it to Springfield to swear in the new senate, but he did finally arrive. Of course, that would not have been an issue, if he resided in the Governor's mansion. Blago never lived in the governor's mansion. Instead, he flew back and forth from Chicago (wonder who paid for that).
Would the new senate give him a dirty look? Would they refuse to shake his hand. Would they look the other way? I'm not sure exactly how it went down, but the State Journal-Register (http://www.sj-r.com/news/x1621246460/New-legislative-term-begins-today) has a lot of pictures of the awkward swearing in ceremony.
Impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich presided over a tense swearing-in of the state Senate that must ultimately decide whether to oust him, telling the lawmakers he hopes they will "find the truth and sort things out."
The highlight of the day had to be when Blagojevich's legal staff received the summons for the Jan. 26 Senate impeachment trial.

This whole thing is such a mess and has been handled so badly. For one thing, I have no doubt that Blago is a crook and should be tried in a court of law. If he is found guilty, which I'm sure he will be, he should have his ass thrown in jail. That said, to have all these politicians from Chicago talking about ethics, it makes my skin crawl. The ones that are crying the loudest "Impeach him!" are the same people who have been involved in back room deals and are up to their eyeballs in the Daley machine politics.
Illinois law is very vague on impeachment. They can impeach any Governor for any reason, even if they don't like his hair. This is nothing more than a Kangaroo court, and as much as I despise Blago, I also despise this kind of hypocrisy coming from our Illinois lawmakers. They cry about how they have to remove Blago because he can't "govern" and then they turn around an block him at every turn as he tries to govern (i.e. pick someone to fill the Senate seat).
I say they are all a bunch of thugs in Illinois (and most of them in Washington), Republicans and Democrats.
(BTW- I'll get your blog on my blogroll soon. I've been a bit of a slacker and have been putting off my blog "housework". I apologize for that. Love your blog and so appreciate you stopping by mine.)
