Well, I obviously stay out of these things now,
but I tanned a lot in the 80's and early 90's.
This is definitely not good news. ~ John

Not good news at all. Knowledge is power so watch your body carefully for signs of skin cancer.
Then just relax and enjoy life.

Eeeek!

I *heart* my tanning beds. Great for a nap. Puts me out immediately.

This is the kind of story I read and say, "Tell me something I don't know!" Could anything be more obvious? Yes, like Texting + Driving = Death

You can't go back now, but now you know and can steer clear of these things. I have always had porcelain skin, but was never brave enough to be tempted to try tanning beds. Anything NOT natural scares me. I would never drink or eat anything with artificial sugars either, I figure natural can never be as harmful as man-made stuff.

I've been leery of them since they came out.

I enjoy the tanning bed, I have slept in them before. I mean its baking your skin. Why wouldnt that cause cancer?

Being Claustrophobic a little, the thought of being inside one makes me panic. One summer I tried a stand up booth and thought if my eyes opened they would explode like a gremlin in a microwave. I did go a few times and had a nice tan but I couldn't get over the thought...that was a waste of $25.

@Maria, Believe me I do watch every little spot that ever appears, and I get check ups twice a year.

@Pwn_Star, I know what you mean! It used to be so relaxing to tan. I do miss it, but I miss a lot of things that I used to do *wink* that I know better now.

@Larry_Ohio, You are so right! I was going to do a blog post called "Oh really!" And have a link to this news story, and a link to the "texting while driving is dangerous story," and "Michael Jackson used drugs, etc" You get the picture!

@Sixpence and a Blue Moon, I love to see beautiful porcelain skin! That's the skin that will be less wrinkled in old age too. Of course, you know that.

I have faithfully used sunscreen for years now and even avoid the sun at all costs...mow when the sun goes down, etc. My Dr. has said that most people get their sun damage from all their short trips to work, and back, etc! So, I always wear sunscreen, even though it's only a 10 minute drive o work.

Good for you eating/drinking only all natural. I guess you know high fructose corn syrup is just as bad and is in almost everything...coke, pepsi, etc and lots of juices and foods!

@kenju, I should've known better too. There have always been warnings about tanning, at least during the last few decades.

@Allen, I've fell asleep in them before too, but luckily a timer always shut if off...hope that was the case for you too! I have heard of people falling asleep in them and the timer was set for too long and they woke up sun burned!

@Beth, yeah I always had a little fear too...that I was being filmed undressing down to my undies LOL. Seriously though I didn't like the beds that had even extra "face lights." I kept my eyes tightly closed and couldn't relax as easily.

Now we can all be SPRAYED (Remember Ross in the "Friends" episode getting his spray tan!!!!!)

I haven't done that "midnight tanning" spray on places. Too many people think it looks too orange. I have used endless kinds of topical sunless tanning lotions, like before a vacation, but it slowly comes off...on your clothes, on your SHEETS, etc. Now I just use sunscreen.

Great comments everyone! I really hadn't expected many comments on this.
