I can see this at a bus stop in St. Louis. Growing up in a small Missouri (rural) town, it was a big deal getting to travel to St. Louis to see relatives. St. Louis is a NEAT city.

Thanks for the visit to my blog...and for the nice comments. Btw, I have a lot of seed from the hollyhock, I'd be happy to send you some if you would like them. I'm in KC.

Nice picture! Great ad.

That is one OLD SCHOOL PHOTO AD there John.
Billy Dee Williams WAS Colt 45's spokesman during the '80's up until I believe the early '90's?
I think I see your point though, regarding what just went down in Cambridge, Mass. and all. Stereotyping is always prominent in America.
What a shame too!
(Thanks again for the feedback and NFL previews are up and running now.)
Peace!

Hats off to JIM for making the connection between the previous post and this one! A picture really is worth a thousand words!

@Sixpence_and_a_Blue_Moon, I was just walking on a sidewalk in the central west end and this huge Colt 45 ad was the entire side of the bus stop shelter...I couldn't resist! I thought it was funny ad.

Oh I agree that St. Louis is a NEAT city! It's only about an hour south of here, so I go quite often, especially for shopping...Trader Joe's and the Galleria are just a couple of destinations!

I'm glad I found your blog, no thanks needed--but you're welcome! I will be back too! Yes I would love some of those seed! If you see this, contact me--email address is on my blogger profile page!

@Howard, hello! Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad you like the ad! I hope that pic goes viral on the internet now LOL --SOMEBODY DIGG IT! I can digg it, but my connection is so slow and they make you fill out so much info there, it gets frustrating!

@Jim, I didn't even realize that was Billy Dee Williams, so thanks for mentioning that! I did think it looked like a vintage ad though.

I take pictures of the weirdest things and save them for a rainy day! The timing just seemed right to post that one now! There's nothing wrong with having good conversation and a beer, even if it is Colt 45! Many years ago I worked a 2nd job at a liquor store and tried a lot of beverages (since I got a discount of course), but I never tried Colt 45! I wonder what kind of beer they will have at the White House Meeting? I have a feeling there will be a full bar and the lucky guys will get to take their pick!

I did notice in my reader that you blog (HEFTY INFO on my blogroll for those interested) had started the NFL previews. I will be especially interested in what you have to report on about the RAMS, TITANS, DOLHINS, PACKERS, and ok "THE BEARS" too. Too bad I don't live in Las Vegas or I would spend a whole lot of time in the big sports books!

Wowwww! Billy Dee Williams, I forgot he advertised for Colt 45. Great shot though.

The thing about the add though is that it did get many black Americans to drink Colt 45. A popular black entertainer drinking Colt 45, the pitch did work.

Today the younger generation does make a point of drinking other brands to squash the stereotyping. A few of my friends in their 20s have told me that their parents and grand parents do still drink these beers today. Even a few of my friends, who are in their 30s, drank OE in the 80s and 90s still drink it today.

@themom, yep! It looks like Billy Dee Williams is advertising for them again! Thanks for the compliment and the comment.

@Beth, I've never known of anyone to drink Colt 45. I can see how it would be a stereotype thing. I wonder why they are trying to bring that campaign back to life now?

I didn't know know so many people drank Old English either. I always liked the imports myself LOL.

I think the stereotype beverages now would be Courvoisier and Hennessey, and stereotype cigarettes would be Newport 100's. Remember "The Ladies Man" on Saturday Night Live!?

@Stephen, hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Sorry your 3 posts are scattered! That happened because we were commenting at the exact same time! Thank you for such kind words!

Wow, you really do know my neck of the woods! Hillsboro is like 45 minutes from here!

I'm glad you liked the picture, and thanks for posting that URL! What a coincidence that you have a young Billy Dee Williams picture almost at the same time as I posted the pic of him on the sign!

I like your blog a lot and will be back! I also love the profile pic, as it looks like you guys are standing in my back yard! We have crops on THREE sides of our property and a highway in front! When it's corn, it gets about 16' tall and is like a fortress! The farmer rotates his crops though and this year it is soybeans and soooo pretty! I will be posting some pics of the soybeans, etc soon, so do check back! Thanks again!
